Have the Numbers From Lost Ever Won?

Lost

Lost was a super popular TV show broadcast back in 2004-2010 (covering 6 seasons). Given it still had over 11 million viewers (in the US alone) by the end of the show, you’d think those numbers might have won the lottery by now?

And they sort of have – but only a bit!

That is, back in 2011 some of the numbers came up on Mega Millions and Powerball.

What Are the Lottery Numbers From Lost?

Quick recap: Hugo’s lottery numbers on Lost are 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42. They appeared throughout the series, but most significantly appearing in an episode called ‘Numbers’ in the 1st season. They appear in a flashback sequence for Hurley where he wins the jackpot. They are probably the world’s most famous lottery numbers.

Now the numbers 4, 8, 15, 25, 47 and 42 came up on Mega Millions on Tuesday 4 January 2011. So four of these – 4, 8, 15 and 42 – were Lost numbers. But 16 and 23 weren’t drawn.

Similarly on Powerball on Wednesday 25 May 2011, the numbers drawn were 4, 23, 31, 42, 50 and 23. So only 4, 23 and 42 from Hurley’s numbers came up. Three numbers have also come up twice before, but back in 2002 and 1996, long before the TV show even started.

And that’s it.

Hence they’ve only sort of won.

So far.

Now given how many countries have a lottery it is possible they have also shown up elsewhere in some small part.

However at the time of writing I’m pretty certain they still haven’t all been drawn in any lottery anywhere in the world.

Should You Play the Lost Numbers?

I’m a fan of Lost too – it was the first show I’d seen in ages that actually felt like something different!

But you might want to think again before actually playing the Lost lottery numbers. Because what happens if those numbers ever do come up is that everybody playing them will all share the jackpot prize.

That won’t be too bad though right? Hundreds of millions shared between dozens of people is still loads…

Think again!

When the numbers came up in 2011 on Mega Millions, over 25,000 people won $150 each. Normally that prize level would only be around 3,000 people.

The difference was the Lost effect.

And when you divide a big jackpot between 20,000+ people, it then becomes a very small share each.

Lost is still a popular show today too, as you can see on IMDb. It’s still available to stream and is gaining new fans all the time. So whilst some of those original fans may not be playing the numbers anymore, you can bet new fans will! Lottery players also tend to be quite superstitious and will likely stick with those numbers for many years.

Deciding what numbers are good to play is just one small part of your overall Lottery Strategy. There are of course much bigger things to get right first, but even a small (and easily made) mistake like this can mean the difference between winning big and only winning very small. So choose wisely folks. 🙂

  • Me Myself & I

    4 of 6 LOST #’s came up on Pennsylvania Lottery MATCH 6. Sunday, Apr 14, 2024 – 4 8 15 23 26 27 only $20 (if 26 had been 16 it would have been $1,000).

But since there were 2 other sets of numbers – I also had 8 and 27 total 6 numbers for another $10. $30 total.

Wonder how many of the 504 also picked 16 and 42 as the first row of 6 numbers?
