Simple question right?
Well it depends how the ticket was bought. And on a couple of other things too.
But let’s dig in and figure out if (or how) you need to split your lottery winnings.

It was a present! Don’t give a gift if you just want something back.

It depends on the financial relationship they have with money between the two of them. Seeing that it’s a Boyfriend and Girlfriend situation she should Congratulate him on winning the $500 and say nothing else, let him decide if he’s gonna say ‘hey dinner on me tonight’, or you can have half. She should know how her man is with money… Example, when I won $5,000 I told my boyfriend, took him on a shopping spree, purchased a bigger flat screen TV and we went on a weekend trip. When we returned he wanted my portion of the bills for the month right then and there. I reminded him we pay bills on a certain date which wasn’t for another week or so. I felt like he wanted to spend every cent of my winnings no matter what… AFTER I WINED ‘N’ DINED HIM he had the nerve to say you won $5000 so you should have it… I felt taken advantage of even though I did this out of the kindness of my heart. From that day on any time I won anything he had NO CLUE, I VOW TO NEVER TELL OR GIVE HIM A CENT AGAIN. So basically it depends on the person. My ex would of said take care of you.

A gift is just that but based on this being a relationship probably would decide what to do with the winnings.

A Gift is a Gift. I gave 18 people in my office a Mega Millions ticket for Christmas. I told them it is a gift. If you win it is your winnings. If you want to share that is up to you. A Gift is a Gift.

If I gave a lottery ticket to someone and they won, if it was something smaller (>5,000) I wouldn’t expect anything. If larger amount then 10-20% I would expect. I would do the same if someone gave me a ticket and it won big, I would share 20%.

If it is under $1,000 then it is mine alone because they are going to take taxes out. If it is $10,000 or greater then I would give them a piece of the winning, keeping in mind my tax liability.

It is a gift. The End.
A real nice Thank You card would be expected.

If it’s a large amount will give something.

No I wouldn’t share my lottery winnings because it was a gift. Don’t give a gift if you expect something in return because it does not make sense.

I say it was a gift, so no he doesn’t have to share it. It would be like you bought me this sweater as a gift, what days do you want to wear it..?

Yesssss! Share it! Pay it forward or the money will never be a blessing!
