Lottery Prediction: Can Numbers Be Predicted?

[This is the continuation of a discussion about lottery prediction that originated on my reviews of lottery systems page. It was getting too long there so I’ve brought it over here to a new post for reply]

You are quite right to say one should always take the last 4 draws in account with your own selections but I still doubt in winning the elusive Holy Grail combination. Needless to say I don’t believe when they announce 4, 6, 10, or whatever number of winners for that particular Draw. Looks good but NAH

I agree with JonC. The lottery has plenty of time between cut off and the draw to check and see how many people have picked certain numbers. Then they proceed to Make sure those numbers don’t hit, thereby reducing their payout. I believe the numbers are floating in the air for everyone to see. Problem is not everyone can see them so we have a lot of losers. That makes the jackpot higher for the ones that do see them. It all comes down to how well you can meditate and pick the numbers. Did I forget to mention anything?

      Hi Mickey

I think you lost me somewhere between the conspiracy theory and the numbers floating in the air..!?

But lottery companies don’t need to do anything dodgy to make plenty of profits. And doing anything other than running a fair draw puts those profits at risk. So why would they? It doesn’t really make sense to me.

All I have to say is not all lotteries are done by the ball system in California on the fantasy 5 the numbers are picked using a computer, check it out on how the numbers are picked on the California lottery home page!

The random part is what keeps the predictable part out of the equation. The law of probability may work but the number of slips that you have to play would be astronomical. We all like to think and envision that someday someone will be able to outsmart “random” but that would be like predicting the percentage of heads to the percentage of tails on a two sided coin there are too many variables that affect the outcome.

    Hey LG,

    I’m on your side. Totally.

For example: I live in Delaware.

In Delaware, there are no “balls” that “rise” up to the top or “roll” out of a tube.

Delaware uses a “random number generator” machine for ALL of their state games.

That way, since you can’t buy a ticket after 20 minutes before the numbers are drawn, they can figure out the best 3 or 4 number combo that they will have to pay out the “least” amount of prize money… and keep the lion’s share for themselves!

    But it’s not just Delaware…

The Powerball and MegaMillions does the same thing. Why do you think you can not buy a ticket after 9:30 PM the night of the draw… when the drawing takes place at 11 PM?

Because they need that hour and a half to “crunch” the numbers and figure out the best possible number combination that they will have to pay out the “least” amount of money in prizes!

Who do they think they’re fooling?

    Not me.

    56 years old,

    Johnny

      Hey Johnny

But as I said above, why would they do that? They simply don’t need to. They make plenty of money without having to do doing anything illegal that would risk losing their license to operate, and sending them to prison. The prize levels are balanced to ensure they are always profitable.

The time the ticket machines close actually varies enormously in the US, depending on State and on the individual store policy. Some close hours before, others 30 minutes or even less.

      I really don’t think there’s any conspiracy here 🙂

      • Johnny

        Hey LG,

        Why would they do that?

Simple. They would pay out the least amount in prizes and keep the most amount for themselves.

It’s not rocket science. It’s computing. They know no one will challenge the draw, so they use “number crunching” to their advantage.

Why else can I not buy a ticket 1 minute before the draw time for the Pick 3 or 4 in Delaware?

Simple. For a 3 or 4 number game in only 1 state, it only takes 20 minutes or less to “crunch” the numbers.

For a multi-state draw (Powerball and MegaMillions) it takes longer. That’s why ticket sales are cut off 1 and 1/2 hours before the draw time.

In fact, the MegaMillions draw is held in Orlando, Fl. At 11 PM Eastern time, same time as Delaware where I live. And the fact is I can not buy a MegaMillions ticket for that night’s draw after 9:30 PM. Why? Because they need 1 and 1/2 hours to “crunch” the numbers.

If you don’t believe this is possible, and could not possibly happen, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

        Johnny

You’re missing the point. Why bother risking going to prison for a very long time, when your profits are guaranteed just by running a perfectly fair and legal game. To make slightly more money..? Total nonsense.

    Hi

I personally view 99 percent of lottery software as garbage and a waste of money!

I have bought lottery software. The software has won a very small prize. Hmm, at least the win covered the cost of the purchase!

I am however to say the least far from impressed!

I am thinking of joining a syndicate. Syndicates can offer me better odds. However there are syndicates and there are syndicates!.

    Cameron.

  • Judex

I have been interested in computer programming. I am sure that it is possible to predict the 6 good numbers, BUT the cost does not allow us to syndicate a bet of thousands of entries to make sure of a win every week. Mathematically it is 100% possible! Alternatively, mathematically, we can bring it to a better chance to win but no 100% guarantee and the cost to bet is not that much. This is what the softwares are doing. Any mathematician can confirm this statement : Yes, we can predict a jackpot every week but the cost to best is too much !

    • LG

It’s not really predicting anymore though if you have to buy all the combinations 🙂

      • Judex

You are quite right ! The word Predicting is not the correct word, but being used too often unconsciously !

The commercial Softwares are too light to give ample chances to win !

        Cheers !

Yup, no-one would be crazy enough to pass on a true prediction system, which would be someone with a time machine They would use it themselves and tell no-one. Anyone got a number for H G Wells ?

  • Tanz

    Hi,
Can you tell me where I can get a free database for all the Florida Lottery numbers for the past two years? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,
    Tanz

    Hi,
Having done the lottery for about 10 yrs and the old football pools before the lotto era, I honestly think that prediction is possible to a certain extent, I tend to only to do the Irish lotto’s at the bookies now days as the odds are better and better value for money. Plus you can get flexibility with permutations by writing instructions down rather than filling lots of tickets.

Example, the one I’m doing for the next couple of weeks is a group of 9 numbers – I will be brave and give you the numbers if anyone is interested in following them. Then I will explain the reason I set them out the way I do, the bet is 5p fourfolds:
    11, 12, 13,
    24, 25, 26,
    37, 38, 39.
= any 2 numbers from the first group, 1 from the middle, and 1 number from the third group makes it 27 bets = £1.35.

It’s the 39 number 6 number draw I’m doing on the Irish daily draw, 2 draws, so I am staking £2.70. I know from history that this group of number has not won since Sep 2nd 2013, I would expect them to come up about once every 3 to 4 months, so they are well due to fall in. On the down side, 4 numbers came up a few days ago but in the wrong order, but I’m hopeful for a win this week of £187.50.

I do do bigger groups of numbers and have had multiples of £187, my strategy is the waiting game, where upon I check all my multiple plans and perms and apply them when they are due to come up. Did win £560 in Jan, but no win in February, this plan is one of my cheaper ones, not the best but it keeps the cost down, not sure if you can call this prediction? But what I do know all of the perms I do all pay within a given time, when I do plans I cover all of the 39 numbers, I break them down to groups of 13’s or 4 groups of 10 groups of 3’s etc, hope it makes sense to those who read my comment, the reason I bunch the numbers it makes the target to hit much easier, good luck.

  • Jim

No, I’ve tried to predict lottery numbers for 30 years now, not even 1 number would come close.
