Oooh, 10/11/12, Feel Lucky?

Guess what, today is 10/11/12… oooh, spooky 😉

spooky 10/11/12 today

So will you be playing any particular special numbers tonight..?

I’m willing to bet there’s going to be an awful lot of people playing the numbers 10, 11 and 12.

And you know what that means?

That’s right. Every time otherwise sensible people play popular numbers, another lottery fairy dies.

Or to put it another way – if you play popular numbers you run a very significant risk of having to share your lovely jumbo jackpot with a whole boat load of other winners.

Because combinations made up of very popular numbers are regularly played by hundreds of people in every lottery game around the world. Hundreds of people who all seem completely oblivious to the fact that hundreds of other people are doing the very same thing!

Which can turn your ‘jumbo’ jackpot, into one that would struggle to even buy you a new TV. Seriously.

So today’s timely little lottery tip is… try and avoid ‘popular’ numbers.

A lottery fairy will thank you for it 🙂

What if these players (the ones that play 10-11-12) all get it right one time BECAUSE they all played these numbers and WISHED these numbers to be drawn?

I’m sure you know about the “majority vote” theory.

Sorry, but numbers do not come out of a draw machine just because lots of people picked them. If they did those ‘popular combinations’ that people pick in their hundreds every single week (like 1,2,3,4,5,6) would come up all the time.

Look at the results list for any lottery and see how many people have won each week – jackpots are won by a tiny number of tickets. There’s your evidence that disproves ‘majority vote theory’.

Hey “partner” I’m tired of getting ripped off – but you really seem sincere. I hope I’m smart enough – math and numbers haven’t been my thing. I’m not looking for the “Big Dirty” just a quality of life for me and my family, and stop this insanity, while others living off the government and have just as much as I do, but I’m struggling pay check to pay check.

I was talking about playing the same power ball number every time you play. For example: 2-12-34-44-48-18 5-17-22-31-39-18 11-14-27-36-40-18

I think this was in reference to an email about playing Powerball?

You can certainly cover the same Powerball across a number of tickets, in the hope that at least that ball is right.

Another approach is to buy enough tickets to cover all the possible Powerballs. Then you guarantee you win at least that prize. (But obviously that doesn’t guarantee a profit, as it costs far more to cover those numbers than you would win).

But it’s swings and roundabouts really.

Covering the same Powerball reduces your chances of being right (less numbers covered), but increases your chances of a bigger win if you get the Powerball. Covering different Powerballs increases the chances of that being right, but reduces your chances of a jackpot win because only one Powerball can be right…

Ultimately one combination of many millions comes out of the draw machine, and you want to match that exactly 🙂
